Taxonomy
Ophiderpeton granulosum was named by Fritsch (1880). Its type specimen is CGH (Orig. 130), a set of postcrania, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Nyrany, which is in a Westphalian D lacustrine coal in the Kladno Formation of the Czech Republic.

It was recombined as Oestocephalus granulosum by Milner (1994).
