Rostellaria bicarinata was named by Deshayes in Leymerie (1842) [Deshayes in Leymerie, 1842].

It was recombined as Helicaulax bicarinata by Gabb (1869); it was recombined as Pterocera bicarinata by Jaccard (1869); it was recombined as Tessarolax bicarinata by Stewart (1927), Anderson (1938) and Saul and Squires (2015).
