Xenophora (Endoptygma) hermax was named by Squires and Saul (2001). Its type specimen is SDSNH 50707, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is SDSNH 3673. Carlsbad Research Center, which is in a Campanian coastal siltstone/mudstone in the Point Loma Formation of California.
