Ovula tuberculosa was named by Duclos (1825). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Cypraea tuberculosa by Sowerby (1850); it was recombined as Megalocypraea tuberculosa by Woodring (1982); it was recombined as Gisortia tuberculosa by Pacaud (2008).
