Proterato (Eratoena) tenuirugosa was named by Beets (1984). Its type specimen is RGM 315 208, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mandul Island, Borneo, which is in a Miocene marine marl/claystone in the Mandul Marl Formation of Indonesia.
