Laurentoscandodus was named by Landing et al. (1996) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u]. Its type is Oistodus triangularis.

It was assigned to Drepanoistodontidae by Pyle and Barnes (2002); and to Conodontophorida by Sepkoski (2002).
