Lenodus was named by Sergeeva (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-l O Aren-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1116].

It was assigned to Conodontophorida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Balognathidae by Stouge and Bagnoli (1999) and Mestre and Heredia (2020).

A. Mestre and S. Heredia 2020The apparatus of the genus Lenodus is composed of strongly dissimilar pectiniform elements, which may or may not show honeycomb surface pattern on the platform. The Pa elements present pastiniscaphate morphology with denticulate lobes in posterior and anterior processes. The dextral Pa element has wide platforms, while the sinistral Pa element has slender platforms. The Pb element presents pastiniscaphate morphology. The S elements are alate Sa, tertiopedate Sb, bipennate Sc, and quadriramate Sd, with wartlike extensions on the tip of the cusps. The M element is a modified “geniculate” type (Fig. 4).
