Leptochirognathus was named by Branson and Mehl (1943) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u O Llde Sepkoski's reference number: 800,867,1066]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Multioistodontidae by Sweet (1988); and to Conodontophorida by Sepkoski (2002).
