Cypraea elegans was named by Defrance (1826). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Cypraea (Cyprovula) elegans by de Gregorio (1880); it was recombined as Cypraeovula elegans by Reato (1983); it was recombined as Cypraedia elegans by Piccoli and Savazzi (1983).
