Escharella (Dialytostoma) was named by Cossmann (1888) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l T Mi].

It was Macromphalus (Dialytostoma) by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); it was reranked as Dialytostoma by Sepkoski (2002); it was synonymized subjectively with Macromphalus by Bouchet (2015).

It was assigned to Escharella by Cossmann (1888); to Macromphalus by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
