Neospathodus was named by Mosher (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Indu-u Tr Ladi Sepkoski's reference number: 800,867]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Xaniognathidae by Clark et al. (1981); to Conodontophorida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Neogondolellinae by Igo (2009) and Maekawa and Igo (2014).
