Taxonomy
Pterospathodus was named by Walliser (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u S Wenl-l Sepkoski's reference number: 867]. It is not extant. Its type is Pterospathodus amorphognathoides. It is the type genus of Pterospathodontidae.
It was assigned to Pterospathodontidae by Sweet (1988); to Conodontophorida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Balognathidae by Donoghue et al. (2008).
