Cypraea mus maxima was named by Grateloup (1847) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; France, Greece.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Schilderia maxima by Schilder (1932); it was recombined as Zonarina (Prozonarina) maxima by Schilder and Schilder (1971); it was recombined as Prozonarina maxima by Harzhauser (2004).
