Gisortia clarki was named by Ingram (1940). Its type specimen is UCMP 14844, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Megalocypraea clarki by Woodring (1982); it was recombined as Gisortia (Megalocypraea) clarki by Groves (1992).
