Taxonomy
Thamnastraea exigua was named by Reuss (1854). It is not extant. It is the type species of Palaeosiderofungia.

It was recombined as Synastrea exigua by Oppenheim (1930); it was recombined as Fungiastraea exigua by Morycowa (1971); it was recombined as Palaeosiderofungia exigua by Löser (2016).
