Tropodus was named by Kennedy (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u O Aren-u Sepkoski's reference number: 800]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Protopanderodontidae by Sweet (1988); to Acodontidae by Pyle and Barnes (2002); and to Conodontophorida by Sepkoski (2002).
