Taxonomy
Ammonites semiornatus was named by d'Orbigny (1850). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tours (d'Orbigny collection), which is in a Santonian carbonate grainstone in France.

It was recombined as Placenticeras semiornatum by Kennedy (1984).
