Oolithes obtusatus was named by Carruthers (1871). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Brixton Bay (Fox collection), which is in a Hauterivian/Barremian marine horizon in the Wessex Formation of the United Kingdom.
