Tesakoviaspis was named by Karatajute-Talimaa and Meredith Smith (2004) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. Its type is Tesakoviaspis concentrica.

It was assigned to Astraspidiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tesakoviaspididae by Van Der Laan (2019).
