Taxonomy
Goniatites retrorsus brilonensis was named by Kayser (1872) [Goniatites retrorsus var. brilonensis]. It is the type subspecies of Wedekindella.

It was recombined as Goniatites brilonensis by Kayser (1879); it was recombined as Wedekindella brilonensis by Göddertz (1987) and Korn and Klug (2002).
