Taxonomy
Ransonia faviai was named by Dolin and Lozouet (2004). Its type specimen is MNHN-IM-2000-3714, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Peyrère (=Peyrehorade) marls, which is in a Chattian estuary/bay marl in the Marnes de Saint-Etienne-d’Orthe Formation of France.

L. Dolin and P. Lozouet 2004La coquille, mince mais solide, de petite taille, est de forme subglobuleuse a galbe ampoule ; la spire est saillante au sein de la depression ombilicale. La sole ventrale est calleuse, formam lateralement des bourrelets retrousses dorsalement, fortement margines. Le canal siphonal peu profond forme un court pontet. Le pli terminal est court, horizontal et transverse, formant un meplat plongeant, en croissant de lune ; il est prolonge par la lame interne torse, terminee en goutte d' eau, qui fait saillie sur I' ouverture, etroite. La fossula en cuilleron, peu concave, porte a son bord epaissi 4 gros denticules rejoignant en forts funicules les denticules de la levre interne. I.:aire columellaire, regulierement arrondie, esr irregulierement parcourue par 4 funicules obsoletes. La levre interne, a angulation franche en depit de la convexite de la sole ventrale, parte 18 denticules minuscules, limires a I' angulation; son extremite posterieure forme un bourrelet lamelleux courbe, dejete adapicalement. Le canal exhalant, peu profond mais bien delimite, forme un petit mufle acumine. La levre externe, pincee en son quart anterieur, est large, en forme de croissant ; elle parte 22 petits denticules courts.
