Trivia mediterranea frigida was named by Schilder (1932). Its type specimen is CS 221, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Trivia (Trivia) frigida by Schilder (1941); it was recombined as Trivia frigida by Schilder (1933), Fehse and Landau (2002) and Fehse and Grego (2006).
