Erato senectus was named by Murdoch (1924).

It was recombined as Proterato (Eratoena) senectus by Schilder (1951); it was recombined as Proterato (Cypraerrato) senectus by Fleming (1966); it was recombined as Lachryma (Proterato) senectus by Cernohorsky (1971); it was recombined as Lachryma senectus by Beu et al. (1990).
