Erato columbella was named by Menke (1847). It is extant.

It was recombined as Erato (Hespererato) columbella by Emerson and Old (1963) and Keen (1971); it was recombined as Hespererato columbella by Turgeon et al. (1998) and Skoglund (2002); it was misspelled as Hesperato columbella by Muhs (2014).
