Erato panamensis was named by Carpenter (1856). It is extant.

It was recombined as Erato maugeriae panamensis by Keen (1968); it was recombined as Erato (Hespererato) panamensis by Keen (1971); it was recombined as Hespererato panamensis by Cantalamessa et al. (2005).
