Taxonomy
Sysphinctostoma gracilis was named by Broom (1950). Its type specimen is RC 113, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lumku Farm, Lady Frere, which is in an Anisian terrestrial horizon in the Burgersdorp Formation of South Africa.
