Arietites meigeni was named by Hug (1899).

It was recombined as Echioceras meigeni by Buckman (1914); it was recombined as Leptechioceras meigeni by Blau (1998), Blau et al. (2000), Meister and Friebe (2003), Edmunds et al. (2003) and Lukeneder and Lukeneder (2018).
