Colosteus scutellatus
Taxonomy
Pygopterus scutellatus was named by Cope (1869). Its type specimen is AMNH 6916, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Linton, which is in a Westphalian D mire/swamp coal in Ohio.
It was recombined as Sauropleura scutellata by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Colosteus scutellatus by Hook (1983), Ruta et al. (2003) and Clack and Milner (2015).
