Stromatoporella was named by Nicholson (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 363]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Stromatoporellidae.
It was assigned to Stromatoporellidae by Stearn (1996) and Stearn et al. (1999); and to Stromatoporoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
