Coronodus was named by Bryant (1935) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras-l Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Coronodontida by Zangerl (1981) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Coronodontidae by Ginter et al. (2010).
