Taxonomy
Palaeocypraea (Palaeocypraea) wilfredi was named by Groves (2004). Its type specimen is LACMIP 13065,, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LACMIP loc. 17611, along Dry Creek, near Pentz, which is in a Campanian open shallow subtidal conglomerate in the Chico Formation of California.

It was recombined as Palaeocypraea wilfredi by Groves et al. (2011).

L. T. Groves 2004A Palaeocypraea of medium size, elongate shell, broad spire, fine dentition, fossula concave and smooth.

Shell medium in size, slightly constricted anteriorly; maximum height and width near center; spire of medium height, partially covered by successive whorls; dorsum slightly flattened; aperture narrow, fairly straight; denticulation fine with smooth interstices, outer lip with 18 teeth, inner lip with six teeth; outer lip with prominent anterior terminal ridge, forming slight marginal callus.
