Aturia brunlechneri was named by Frauscher (1895). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Richardstollen, Guttaring, which is in a Lutetian carbonate marl in Austria.
It was recombined as Aturoidea brunlechneri by Kummel (1956).
