Taxonomy
Branchiosaurus amblystomum was named by Credner (1881). Its type specimen is MMGDSGEDS-320, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Branchierpeton amblystomum by Schoch (2013) and Schoch and Milner (2014).
