Taxonomy
Scymnorhinus was named by Bonaparte (1846) [Sepkoski's age data: T Pale R Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. It is extant. Its type is Scymnus lichia.

It was assigned to Somniosidae by Hay (1902); to Scymnorhinidae by Jordan and Gilbert (1919), Jordan and Gilbert (1919) and Jordan (1963); and to Squaliformes by Sepkoski (2002).
