Paranomotodon was named by Herman (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno K Camp Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Anomotodontidae by Herman (1979); to Lamniformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Alopiidae by Cappetta and Case (1975), Müller and Diedrich (1991), Siverson (1992), Shimada (1996), Niedźwiedzki and Kalina (2003) and Guinot et al. (2013).
