Pseudocorax was named by Priem (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo-u K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 863,884]. It is the type genus of Pseudocoracidae.
It was assigned to Lamnidae by Jordan (1963); to Lamniformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Anacoracidae by Applegate (1970), Case and Schwimmer (1988), Case (1991), Müller and Diedrich (1991), Cappetta and Case (1999), Cappetta and Odin (2001), Hamm and Shimada (2007), Shimada (2009) and Guinot et al. (2013); and to Pseudocoracidae by Bice and Shimada (2016), Jambura et al. (2021) and Ebersole et al. (2022).
