Clavigerides was named by Leach (1815). It is extant.

It was reranked as the subfamily Clavigerinae by Newton and Chandler (1989); it was reranked as the unranked clade Clavigeritae by Bouchard et al. (2011) and Parker and Grimaldi (2014).

It was assigned to Pselaphidae by Newton and Chandler (1989); and to Pselaphinae by Bouchard et al. (2011) and Parker and Grimaldi (2014).
