Taxonomy
Paraorthacodus was named by Glikman (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: J Aale T Than Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Paraorthacodontidae.
It was assigned to Galeomorphii by Sepkoski (2002); to Palaeospinacidae by Duffin and Ward (1993), Cvancara and Hoganson (1993), Siverson (1997), Underwood and Mitchell (1999), Rees (2000) and Klug (2008); and to Paraorthacodontidae by Guinot et al. (2013), Guinot et al. (2014), Cappetta et al. (2019), Hoganson et al. (2019) and Stumpf and Kriwet (2019).
