Taxonomy
Hypolophodon was named by Cappetta (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani T Mi Sepkoski's reference number: 884,958]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Dasyatidae by Cappetta (1987) and Cvancara and Hoganson (1993); to Myliobatiformes by Sepkoski (2002) and Case et al. (2015); and to Myliobatoidei by Ebersole et al. (2019).
