Igdabatis was named by Cappetta (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. Its type is Igdabatis sigmodon.

It was assigned to Myliobatiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Myliobatidae by Cappetta (1987) and Kriwet et al. (2007).
