Taxonomy
Platyodus was named by Newberry (1875) [Sepkoski's age data: teeth]. It is not extant. Its type is Platyodus lineatus.

It was assigned to Cochliodontidae by Hay (1902) and Jordan (1963); and to Holocephali by Sepkoski (2002).
