Cymbalophus hookeri was named by Godinot et al. (1987). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Palette, which is in a Ypresian fluvial-lacustrine horizon in France.
It was recombined as Pachynolophus hookeri by Godinot et al. (1987) and Hooker (1994).
