Taxonomy
Ammonites nimbatus was named by Oppel (1863). It is the type species of Glochiceras, Glochiceras (Glochiceras).

It was recombined as Glochiceras nimbatum by Hyatt (1900); it was recombined as Glochiceras (Glochiceras) nimbatum by Schlegelmilch (1994) and Sato and Yamada (2014).
