Myledaphus was named by Cope (1876) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-u T Eo-l Sepkoski's reference number: 863]. Its type is Myledaphus bipartitus.
It was assigned to Chimaeridae by Hay (1902); to Dasyatidae by Estes (1964), Estes and Berberian (1970) and Case (1978); to Rhinobatoidei by Cappetta (1987); to Batoidea by Bryant (1989); to Anacoracidae by Pearson et al. (2002); to Chimaeriformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Rajiformes by Peng et al. (2001) and Bourdon et al. (2011); and to Rhinobatidae by Hoganson et al. (2019).
