Sibyrhynchus was named by Zangerl and Case (1973) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-u Sepkoski's reference number: 451]. It is not extant. Its type is Sibyrhynchus denisoni.
It was assigned to Iniopterygia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sibyrhynchidae by Zangerl (1981) and Pradel (2010).
