Belantsea was named by Lund (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Belantsea montana.

It was assigned to Petalodontida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Belantseidae by Lund (1989) and Ginter et al. (2010).
