Ammonites epiplectus was named by Redtenbacher (1873) [DISTRIBUTION: Maastrichtian; Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pachydiscus (Pachydiscus) epiplectus by Kennedy and Summesberger (1986) and Ward and Kennedy (1993); it was recombined as Pachydiscus epiplectus by Arkadiev et al. (2000) and Courville and Odin (2001).
