Taxonomy
Beneziphius cetariensis was named by Miján et al. (2017). Its type specimen is SGHNMF MA0953, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Selva fishing ground, which is in a Messinian/Zanclean offshore shelf phosphorite in Spain.

Miján et al. 2017 | Beneziphius cetariensis differs from B. brevi- rostris in: the larger size; the rostrum being proportionally longer; the premaxillae being longer than the maxillae at the apex of the rostrum; the left premaxillary sac fossa being transversely concave; and the ascending process of the pre- maxilla reaching the vertical, with the posterodorsal portion of the ascending process slightly overhanging the bony nares.
