Taxonomy
Perittodus apsconditus was named by Clack et al. (2016). It is not extant. Its type specimen is UMZC 2011.7.2a and b, a partial skull (Cheek region of skull, lower jaw, and postcranial elements in part and counterpart). Its type locality is Willie’s Hole Bed 2 (amphibian bed), which is in a Tournaisian terrestrial horizon in the Ballagan Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Perittodus.
