Orthacanthus gibbosus
Taxonomy
Diplodus gibbosus was named by Agassiz (1843). Its type specimen is BMNH P.497, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Silverdale, South Staffordshire (BMNH), which is in a Moscovian terrestrial horizon in the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Dittodus gibbosus by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Orthacanthus gibbosus by Johnson (1999).
